Family ‘devastated’ after two found dead in ‘confronting scene’ in Sydney’s west | Sydney

New South Wales police are appealing for information after two people were found dead with “significant injuries” in Sydney’s west on Saturday morning.

Officers were called to a shop on Oxford Street in Cambridge Park, near Penrith, after reports of an assault at about 9.40am.

The bodies, believed to be those of a man and woman aged in their 60s, were first discovered by a family member who then called the police, Det Acting Supt Michael Cantrell told reporters on Saturday afternoon. They have not yet been formally identified.

Cantrell said the deceased had “significant injuries”, describing the scene as “confronting”.

“The family are obviously devastated and they are assisting police,” he said.

A crime scene was established on Saturday morning and police, including homicide squad detectives, have started an investigation.

Cantrell said the investigation was “in its infancy” and there were “many lines of inquiry”, but police had “no suspects at this stage”.

He appealed to any witnesses who may have been in the Cambridge Park area on Oxford Street early on Saturday morning or late on Friday night to come forward.

Cantrell said he was aware of footage that had been circulating on social media.

“It shows a male in the vicinity, the time is yet to be confirmed, but it is certainly a line of inquiry,” he said.

Cantrell said police had “no intelligence to suggest that there is any further threat”.

Police urged anyone who may have dashcam or CCTV footage to come forward or contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
