Shubman Gill fully recovers from finger injury, bats at No. 3 in India vs PM’s XI match

On November 16, Gill had suffered a blow on his finger, which ruled him out of the 1st Test and created doubt over his participation in Adelaide as well.

The King didn’t feature in the India vs Prime Minister’s (PM) XI match, but the Prince did. Shubman Gill has fully recovered from the finger injury and arrived in the middle at the Manuka Oval to bat his original spot, number 3. Reports had suggested that Gill might not participate in the 2-day practice match in Canberra. It was suggested that he hadn’t reached his peak fitness and could skip the pink ball warm-up game to prioritise the India vs Australia 2nd Test in Adelaide.

No injury issues says Shubman Gill

But Gill has recovered, it seems. Two days ago, he’d turned to the nets in Canberra, but it wasn’t confirmed whether he’d feature for India against the PM’s XI. “Gill is batting, and the evaluation will be done by physios. He looked comfortable while batting. I do not know if he will feature in the warm-up match,” India’s assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar, said.

The good news for Team India is that not only has captain Rohit Sharma returned but also Gill. Although India had won the Perth Test, Devdutt Padikkal hadn’t done well at number three. With Gill back, the visitors look even stronger. Their openers, KL Rahul and Yashasvi Jaiswal, looked like a million bucks in Perth, and Virat Kohli returned to form as well. Team India’s top six looks settled for the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide.

Shubman Gill in 2024

Gill has been in fine touch in 2024. He averages 47.41 after 10 matches and has hit 3 centuries. Given that he enjoys pace on his bat and isn’t troubled by pace either, Gill should enjoy batting in Adelaide. Of course, the pink ball will pose some challenges, but he has good memories of batting in Australia.

Batting in Australia, easy for Indian No. 3

Although Gill’s yet to score a hundred Down Under, his average is 51.80 in 3 matches. The 259 runs he smashed came in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne, the venues where India will play after Adelaide. This bodes well for Gill and the team. His experience in Australia will be valuable, and he’s finding his feet at number 3 as well now.
