To drive a data-driven culture and enhance decision-making, Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal partnered with B Online Learning to create an engaging eLearning module that simplified Power BI’s capabilities and boosted data literacy across the workforce. Here’s a snapshot of the project.
What was the project?
Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal Pty Ltd (DBCT P/L) aimed to foster a data-driven culture by introducing Microsoft Power BI across its workforce. Power BI’s introduction was part of a broader data and analytics strategy to ensure personnel had access to high-quality datasets to improve decision-making. The goal was to demystify Power BI’s capabilities, encourage adoption, and improve data literacy across the business.
How Did B Online Learning help solve the challenges?
B Online Learning partnered with DBCT P/L to design an engaging 10-minute eLearning module using Articulate Storyline. The module:
- Focused on accessibility: Provided on-demand, accessible training that aligned with the varied schedules and locations of the workforce.
- Integrated custom animations and characters: Used bespoke animations and relatable characters to simplify Power BI’s complex features, ensuring comprehension regardless of technical skill levels.
- Included interactive and audio elements: Guided narration and interactive navigation provided an additional layer of instruction, increasing engagement and retention.
The content aligned with DBCT P/L’s
branding and tone and the combination of visually engaging animations, clear audio narration, and interactive elements ensuring the eLearning module was not only informative but also engaging.
What were the results?

- Scalable training delivery: The on-demand module minimised business disruption while providing consistent and accessible training for all employees.
- Improved engagement and adoption: The visually appealing, relatable content encouraged widespread adoption of Power BI, with positive feedback across the organisation.
- Catalyst for further initiatives: The program sparked discussions on data analytics, leading to plans for additional training.
