Sarfaraz Khan’s father, Naushad, was overwhelmed with emotion, shedding tears of joy after witnessing his son’s maiden Test century against New Zealand in Bengaluru.
India’s Sarfaraz Khan capitalised on his opportunity with both hands, scoring his maiden Test century on Day 4 of the 1st Test against New Zealand at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on October 19. After a patient wait for his chance, he did not disappoint, showcasing aggressive cricket to reach his ton in just 110 balls. With 13 fours and 3 sixes, Sarfaraz was clearly enjoying himself and made the most of his opportunity, eventually returning to the pavilion with a commendable score of 150 runs.
In an emotional revelation shared by Indian cricketer Surya Kumar Yadav, to Indian Express, Sarfaraz’s father’s reaction to his son’s achievement was highlighted. He said, “I have seen his father fight, pushing hard every day. Musheer (Sarfaraz’s younger brother) had come today, and when I asked him about Tiger’s (Naushad, Sarfaraz’s father) reaction, he replied, ‘he was crying.’”
Partnering with Kohli to counter-attack
Faced with a challenging target of 356 runs in their second innings, Sarfaraz rose to the occasion, forming a strong partnership with the seasoned Virat Kohli on Day 3. By the end of Friday’s play, the 26-year-old had reached 70 runs, displaying remarkable composure under pressure. Although Kohli was dismissed on the last ball of the day, Sarfaraz remained unfazed.
Sarfaraz’s first hundred
This century marks a significant milestone in Sarfaraz’s career, coming at a crucial moment. It followed his explosive 200-run knock in the Irani Cup, with Sarfaraz stepping in as a replacement for Shubman Gill, who is dealing with a minor injury.
Bright prospects ahead for Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz’s Test journey began impressively, with twin half-centuries on his debut against England in Rajkot. He followed this up with another fifty in Dharamsala, helping India secure a 3-1 series victory. With this first Test century under his belt, the Mumbaikar batter is poised for a promising future, signalling even better days ahead.
