IPL Auction 2025: LSG let go players like KL Rahul and Quinton De Kock, which might propel them to bid for Rishabh Pant.
Undoubtedly, ever since the IPL Retentions were announced a few days back, it has become clear that India keeper Rishabh Pant will be the most sought-after player, for obvious reasons. The southpaw is not only a hard-hitting batsman, but is also a thinking captain, is experienced India player, and has that X-factor, that a team always look for, in a player.
Rishabh Pant for LSG at IPL Auction?
But for LSG, who let their IPL 2024 captain go, should not even consider buying Rishabh Pant at the IPL Auction. Look, the Sanjiv Goenka team has INR 69 in their purse, and it would not harm them, to even spend 30 Cr on Pant, but then, it would only spell trouble for them, if they do manage to get him.
Firstly, it would be a fierce battle for Rishabh Pant in the IPL Auction. CSK would surely bid for him, and so would PBKS and KKR. But then they have retained Nicholas Pooran for 18 Cr, who most likely would not keep wickets, as was the case in IPL 2024. So LSG would be looking to fill that slot as well. But they should well resist that temptation of getting Pant.
Apart from the money, what must also be understood is, Pant would straightaway want to be the captain, who left DC over some disagreements, and it would only create two power-channels within the team. And it must also be admitted, that Pant brings more to the table than Nicholas Pooran, if at all he is made the skipper.
On the flip side, if Pant is made the skipper, that would mean an unhappy Pooran, since as per many reports, the condition for the West Indian to stay was, he be made the captain. So, for now, it is a big no, no for LSG to get Pant. In the end, what happens at the IPL Auction would be decided in December, in Riyadh, but work must start now from LSG to perhaps consider RTMing either KL Rahul or Quinton De Kock.
