Repairing the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s screen will set you back $1,200, nearly two-thirds of the phone’s retail price!
Pixel 9 Pro Fold owners will need to handle their devices with extra care, because replacing your phone may be easier than getting it repaired. iFixit has listed the repair kit for the inner screen of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, and it costs more than the new iPhone 16. The full repair kit includes a frame, hinge, side buttons, an OLED screen, and repair tools, which cost $1,207, with the screen on it costing $1,999.
For the same price, users can buy an iPhone 16 Pro Max or Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. Instead of repairing your Pixel, you can easily buy a new smartphone with almost similar advantages but you’ll have to compromise on the size of the display. Currently, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold is the most expensive smartphone in the market with a starting price of $1,799.
Google Pixel Fold Screen Repair – An Expensive Fix
Surprisingly, the Pixel 9 Pro Fold’s inner screen replacement kit is much more expensive than the same part repair kit of the Google Pixel Fold, which costs $909.99. The only good part about the Pixel 9 Pro Fold repair kit is that it exists at all because iFixit doesn’t even have a repair kit for the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6.
This hefty amount is only for the users who repair the phone by themselves. If your phone is still under warranty or you’ve got Google’s Preferred Care plan, similar to AppleCare, you won’t face as steep a repair cost for your foldable.
iFixit has also listed the replacements for the components of the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which are also more expensive than other models. The components include the outer screen ($190), rear cameras ($250), inner front camera ($90), outer front camera ($80), and both the base and flip batteries ($67).
While the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold offers cutting-edge technology and a sleek design, its repair costs are shocking. With prices for replacement parts and repair kits surpassing the cost of a brand-new flagship phone, it’s clear that fixing a damaged Pixel foldable may not be the most practical choice for many.
Of course, if you’re under warranty or have Google’s Preferred Care plan, you’ll avoid some of the pain, but for those without coverage, the high price tag for repairs could have you considering whether it’s better to just upgrade to a new device entirely.
Ultimately, owning a Pixel 9 Pro Fold means weighing the cost of potential repairs against the benefits of a top-tier foldable experience, something that’s not for the budget-conscious.
