Team India should bring out a replacement option, now that Shubman Gill has been ruled out.
Team India have hit a rough patch just before an important Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) against Australia. Young star Shubman Gill hurt his thumb during practice in Perth and won’t be able to play in the first Test match next Friday.
Shubman Gill ruled out of 1st BGT Test
Gill hurt himself while fielding at slips during the match simulation against India A. Doctors checked his thumb and found it was broken. “He’ll need about two weeks to get better,” said a source from the Indian cricket board (BCCI) to the IndianExpress. The good news is that Gill might be ready for the second Test match since there’s a big gap between games. While the first match will start at November 22, the second, i.e., a day-night pink ball Test, will be played in Adelaide on December 06.
“His thumb is not looking good. We got a scan done and it showed a fracture. It will take him at least two weeks to recover. He is ruled out for the first Test match. As there is a big gap between the first and second Test, we are hoping he will recover in time for the second Test,” a source told IndianExpress.

This isn’t the only problem for India. Team captain Rohit Sharma might also miss the game after the birth of his second child on Friday. With both players possibly out, KL Rahul might get a chance to play. Rahul had been left out of recent Test matches against New Zealand, but now he could make a comeback (if fit). KL Rahul himself got hit on his elbow during practice, but he’s expected to be fine for the first Test. If both Gill and Rohit can’t play, India might pick Abhimanyu Easwaran or move KL Rahul up in the batting order.
This reminds fans of India’s last tour to Australia in 2020-21. Back then, 11 players got hurt during the series. Even though India won that series, the team hopes to avoid such bad luck this time around.
