At IPL 2025 auction, MI should let inexperienced pacer Arjun Tendulkar go to another team rather than buying him back

Arjun Tendulkar, the son of legend Sachin, has played just five matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) so far. The pacer has been released by Mumbai Indians ahead of IPL auction and has registered for a base price of Rs 30 lakhs. Despite being bagged by the five-time champions in 2021, he warmed the bench for an entire year before getting to play his first game in 2023. If there’s one person that MI should not bid for in the auction, it is none other than Arjun Tendulkar.

Arjun Tendulkar warmed the bench on most occasions during his stint at MI. In 2023, he played four matches and picked up three wickets. In 2024, he took the field for just one match before returning to familiar territory. With an economy of 9.37, Tendulkar was arguably one of the worst bowlers in MI’s star-studded line-up.

Tendulkar did put up a good show recently in domestic cricket. He bagged his maiden five-wicket haul in the Ranji Trophy Plate tournament, slightly boosting his hopes ahead of the IPL auction. But that doesn’t make the case for his return to MI.

On the contrary, he could be better off in any other side where he could perhaps get more opportunities. Teams like PBKS, RCB among others desperately need a whole new battery of pacers and Arjun Tendulkar could turn out to be a hidden gem. And of course, he can be procured for a very low price at the auction, making him a cheap option for sides. Looking at Tendulkar’s inexperience and past performance in the IPL, it won’t come as a surprise if he goes unsold as well.
