Apple has rolled out a patch for a zero-day vulnerability affecting iPhones, iPads, Macs, and Apple TVs.
Apple has rolled out urgent patches to fix zero-day vulnerabilities exploited by hackers to attack Intel-based Mac computers. These updates also address security flaws that could affect a range of devices, including Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs, ensuring broader protection for Apple users.
The Cupertino company has stated, “Apple is aware of a report that the issue may have been actively exploited on Intel-based Mac systems.” Two zero-day vulnerabilities have led Apple to launch the patches for target devices. Apple has not released specific details about the bugs but it can involve processing “maliciously crafted web content” that can trigger the operating system to run authorized computer code.
Apple Issues Critical Patch for Zero-Day Flaw
Apple has issued patches on an urgent basis for zero-day vulnerabilities that will save devices from the bugs. The company warns that Intel-based Mac computers are susceptible to two major vulnerabilities. The first issue, CVE-2024-44309, would allow a cross-site scripting attack through Apple’s Webkit engine. This attack injects harmful codes into the system and various apps.
The second vulnerability issue, CVE -2024-44308, will run harmful codes through Apple’s JavaScriptCore without the user’s consent. Apple has also released an advisory warning that indicates that hackers may have combined both issues to target Intel-based Mac computers. In 2020, Apple started replacing the Intel chips with its Arm-based M chips.
In response, Apple rolled out patches with macOS Sequoia 15.1.1, iOS 18.1.1, and iPadOS 18.1.1. Users on iOS 17, iPadOS 17, or those with an Apple Vision Pro headset can also get the update.
How to Get the Latest Apple Patch?
Apple has said that hackers must be actively exploiting Intel-based Mac systems, which highlights the importance of patches. iPhone users can download the patches by following the below-mentioned pointers.
- Go to Settings on your iPhone.
- Click on the General option.
- Then go to Software Update
There you can find the patches option and download it. If the user has allowed the automatic updates setting, patches will be downloaded automatically.
Apple’s swift release of patches for these critical zero-day vulnerabilities underscores the importance of keeping your devices up to date. Users of Intel-based Macs, iPhones, iPads, and Apple TVs should take immediate action to download the updates and protect their devices from potential exploits.
