South Africa cricket team led by Marco Jansen wreaked havoc on Sri Lanka in SA vs SL 1st Test as they bowled out their opposition for their lowest Test total. The visitors were bowled out for just 42 runs in the 1st innings, with Marco Jansen bagging seven wickets. South Africa responded in an emphatic fashion after putting 191 runs on board in their 1st innings.

South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma, who made his return to the side for the series, led from the front with a 70-run knock in the 1st innings. He top-scored for the side while the rest of the batting order failed to fire. Despite holding the fort for a considerable period of time, Bavuma was caught out by Asitha Fernando as Proteas were bowled out for 191 runs. Lahiru Kumara and Asitha Fernando picked three wickets each.

Only two Sri Lankan batters managed to get double-digit scores while the rest of the batting order collapsed like a pack of cards. As a result of Jansen’s fiery spell, Sri Lanka recorded the lowest ever 1st innings total in Test cricket history. Jansen, Rabada, and Coetzee were enough to send the visitors packing for just 42 runs.
South Africa capitalised on the lead taken after Sri Lanka’s poor outing in the 1st innings. Aiden Markram (47) and Tony de Zorzi (17) started off strongly for South Africa before Prabath Jayasuriya and Vishwa Fernando struck. Jayasuriya became the fastest Sri Lanka bowler to take 100 Test wickets while also becoming the joint-fastest bowler to achieve the feat in the 20th century. At the end of play on Day 2, South Africa are 132/3 and lead Sri Lanka by 281 runs.
