Following Garcia’s punishment for using PEDs, Devin Haney sued for battery, fraud, and breach of contract, also naming promoter Oscar De La Hoya. The lawsuit seeks an accounting of event expenses and claims Devin is owed 47% of the profits. Critics, including Timothy Bradley and Bernard Hopkins, have called the lawsuit “soft” and questioned its legitimacy. Bill Haney responded by emphasizing the lawsuit’s focus on fairness and correct business practices. Bill asserted that Golden Boy Promotions unfairly benefited from a $1 million award, which should’ve been split with Devin Haney Promotions. He described the lawsuit as an effort to uphold integrity in the sport and as a reflection of business being conducted “the right way,” mirroring similar actions taken by De La Hoya himself.
