PS5 Pro unboxing video

The leaked PS5 Pro unboxing video, which appears to be filmed in an electronics store, has given eager gamers a glimpse of the PS5 Pro days ahead of its official release. The video, running approximately seven minutes, offers a detailed look at Sony’s latest console and its packaging. True to form, Sony has opted for a familiar presentation: the console arrives in a sturdy cardboard box encased in the classic PlayStation-branded exterior.

Inside, the video reveals a collection of cables and, after some suspenseful buildup, the PS5 Pro itself. The design is unmistakably Sony, with subtle refinements that lend the device a more polished appearance than its predecessors. Notably, the video highlights the console’s detachable disk drive, a feature that adds flexibility for users who prefer physical media. It is to be noted that the Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc Drive will be available as a separate purchase.

What to expect from the PS5 Pro

Sony has promised that the PS5 Pro will bring significant advancements over the standard PS5, focusing on power and graphical capabilities. According to the company’s announcements, the PS5 Pro features 28% faster RAM and a more powerful GPU, setting the stage for sharper visuals and smoother gameplay. The addition of advanced ray tracing and AI-driven upscaling aims to elevate gaming experiences to new heights, particularly for titles that demand high performance.

Lead architect Mark Cerny, speaking at the State of Play event in September this year, highlighted Game Boost technology as a major feature of the PS5 Pro. This upgrade will enhance over 8,500 backward-compatible PS4 games, providing more consistent frame rates and improved performance. Additionally, select PS4 games will see Enhanced Image Quality, offering better resolution and visual clarity for players looking to revisit their favourite classics.

In terms of connectivity, the PS5 Pro sets itself apart by introducing Wi-Fi 7 support, ensuring faster and more reliable internet connections for those in supported regions. This enhancement, combined with 8K gaming and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support, promises ultra-high-definition graphics with seamless gameplay, appealing to gamers seeking the ultimate home gaming setup.

Top game developers have already jumped on board to optimise their creations for the new console. Blockbuster titles like Alan Wake 2, Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 are set to receive free updates that will leverage the PS5 Pro’s superior capabilities. These updates, marked with the PS5 Pro Enhanced label, will make it easier for players to identify which games will offer optimised performance.

Rumours are also surfacing that the PS5 Pro will come with an extra 2GB of RAM, which will give its performance a further boost.

Sony releases Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 PS5 Pro trailer

Sony has also released the Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 – Official PS5 Pro Enhanced trailer. The video, which is 1 minute and 49 seconds long, shows the world of Spider-Man with better graphics. It also promises better ray-tracing and lesser compromises in graphic quality when playing in modes that favour performance.

Bryan Intihar, Senior Creative Director at Insomniac Games, could be seen saying in the trailer that in this generation of consoles, players get to choose how they want to play the game and that is great. “The challenge is are we delivering the promise of this character of this franchise playing either in fidelity mode or performance mode”

Jacinda Chew, Senior Art Director said, “We want to put in as much detail as possible in the characters and environments”. She added that players will experience an “incredibly reflective world” with Spider-Man 2 enhanced for the PS5 Pro.
