Samsung plans to outshine the Huawei Mate XT with the release of its tri-fold phone by next year.
The foldable smartphone market is expanding with several brands trying to create a seamless yet unique customer experience. Adding to the innovation, the Huawei Mate XT has a triple-folding mechanism and a hefty price tag. Some leaks suggest that Samsung plans to launch its own tri-fold smartphone with a different approach.
As per the sources, Samsung will be launching the three-fold phone as early as next year. The company plans to reclaim its position in the foldable smartphone market with new and unique innovations. Additionally, Samsung’s new foldable will not only have three folds but will be an “infolding one,” which means that both the side screens will fold inwards and one of them will have a back display for single-screen mode.
Samsung’s Tri-Fold: The Next Fold Innovation
Samsung has always embraced innovation, constantly pushing boundaries and adapting to stay at the forefront of the smartphone market. The company is in the development stage of the new tri-fold phone, which is expected to be released by 2025. Right now, the Huawei Mate XT is the first and only tri-foldable phone. The screen folds seamlessly in on itself, so when closed, the left panel functions as a standalone display.
As the leak suggests, Samsung’s tri-fold will have an infolding mechanism where both the screens will fold inwards, making it necessary to have additional screens on the back of one side. That’s exactly how the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 6 works, along with other foldables like the Google Pixel 9 Pro Fold, where one panel features displays on both the front and back. When a tri-fold device eventually hits the market, it will likely need to use a similarly clever design to keep things seamless.
Based on the leaks, the phone is believed to have a 9-10 inch screen when unfolded, almost the size of a Galaxy Tab S9. This makes the upcoming phone more exciting and efficient for multitasking.
Challenges with Samsung’s Three-Fold Phone
Despite the many ideas floating around, developers and engineers at Samsung may have a hard time developing the user interface. The company has many hurdles to overcome like the thickness and weight of the tri-fold phone. Introducing a third fold could easily make the phone bulky and hard to handle. However, sources indicate that Samsung aims to keep the thickness under 13mm, ensuring the device stays sleek and pocket-friendly.
Samsung’s venture into the tri-foldable smartphone market promises to shake up the foldable landscape with its innovative design and user-friendly features. While the challenges of thickness, weight, and a seamless user interface remain significant hurdles, the company’s track record of pushing the boundaries of smartphone technology makes it well-positioned to overcome these obstacles.
If the rumors hold true, Samsung’s tri-fold phone could set a new standard for foldables, offering a unique blend of versatility, functionality, and portability. As we eagerly await its official release, one thing is certain: the future of foldable smartphones is about to get a lot more exciting.
