India begin their Border Gavaskar Trophy against Australia with first Test match at Perth on 22nd November
Virat Kohli’s poor form in Test cricket in 2024 has been a major concern for the India Cricket Team. But ahead of the IND vs AUS Test series, Sunil Gavaskar has pinned his hopes on Virat Kohli. The Indian legend believes that Kohli will go on to score big runs if he survives the start.
Virat Kohli has been sub-par according to his standards in Test cricket in 2024. He has managed just one fifty-plus score and is without a Test ton in the entire year. And with the Border Gavaskar Trophy just a week away, the pressure is high on Kohli to perform.

Virat Kohli needs to Survive the Start
While Adelaide Oval has been Kohli’s favorite hunting ground, raking up 5 Test tons. Virat Kohli has also managed to score a wonderful century at Perth. Gavaskar went on to explain that playing on favorable grounds makes the batter a bit more confident.
“Before Adelaide, it’s Perth. He got one of the finest centuries at Perth in 2018-19. Terrific, terrific 100. So, when you have got runs under your belt on certain grounds, you just feel a little bit confident. Of course, you need luck to survive at the start and the ball may be a little bit. So, if he gets off to a start, he will get big runs,” Sunil Gavaskar told Star Sports.
Sunil Gavaskar also explains that Kohli will go on to score big runs if he manages to survive the start. He further explained that Kohli will be hungry to score more runs. With the entire world pinning their hopes on Kohli, the ace batter will be desperate to live up to the hopes of his beloved fans.
“Yes, I do. That’s because he hasn’t got runs against New Zealand. He’ll be very, very hungry. Even in that Adelaide Test match, where in the second innings we got out for 36. In the first innings, Kohli had got 70 plus if I recall correctly. Then he was run out. So, all the times he has played in Adelaide, he has got runs. So, clearly even here, even if its a pink ball game, that’s a familiar ground for him,” Gavaskar concluded.
