Why Team India should not send Mohammed Shami for BGT?

Mohammed Shami is currently playing domestic cricket for Bengal

India Cricket Team ace pacer Mohammed Shami is currently trying his best to achieve 100% match fitness. All this is being done to send Shami to Australia to take part in the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy. But, as things stand, Team India shouldn’t rush on the pacer’s fitness and not send him to Down Under.

Barely a month has passed since Shami returned to action in domestic cricket after being out for almost a year. The BCCI Medical Team has made it clear that until Shami attends 100% international match fitness he won’t be sent to Australia. And now as things stand, Shami survived an injury scare and is yet to be perfectly match fit.

No Need to Rush

There is absolutely no need to rush on Shami’s fitness. India has missed out on Shami’s bowling for over a year and can live with it for another month or so. There is absolutely no need to rush the player to achieve his fitness in haste. This in turn can have adverse effects on the player and further hamper his buildup.

Mohammed Shami was not selected to be a part of the India Squad for the IND vs AUS Test series as he returned to domestic cricket. He played a Ranji Trophy game before being selected in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. He now continues to feature for Bengal under close observation of the BCCI Medical Team.

The BCCI has made it clear until and unless Shami is 100% fit, he won’t travel to Australia. As things stand, India now heads into the Pink Ball Test in Adelaide after a dominating 1-0 win in Perth. The visitors have a good bowling roster and as a result, there is no need to rush and send Shami given IPL 2025 and the ICC Champions Trophy is in the horizon.
